“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
Ephesians 2:4-7 ESV
The new you is above the stuff that previously got you down, entangled or distracted. Learning how to walk takes time (ask any toddler), so don’t be too hard on yourself. Following Jesus is a daily identity exercise.
The new you is seated higher, you have been raised up and given a seat with Christ in the heavenly places. This speaks of Divine authority whereby we possess every spiritual blessing, it speaks of being above powers and principalities that once threw us this way and that, and it speaks of the Kingdom of God in it’s future glory.
When old hang-ups come knocking, when old habits raise their head and when old ways of thinking get chatty – tell them “I am seated higher now. You have no hold on me, like you have no hold on Christ.”
