“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

Ephesians 4:1-6 ESV

Our calling doesn’t exist in a vacuum, it only functions within the unity of the church body. That takes some humility, gentleness, and a lot of patience and love. Jesus said clearly that “a kingdom divided against itself will not stand” (Mark 3:24).

We don’t mind the statement “walk in a manner worthy of the calling” when we individualize that and think it’s pertaining to our own walk with the Lord, however the context is clear; this is about how we walk with others.

The question today is; who do you need to reconcile with to keep walking out your calling? Who has wronged you that you need to forgive and bless so you can get back on track? Not thinking this is easy for a second, but that we are more “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” than we are to holding onto hurt.
